Emergency Plan

It is required by the Department of Public welfare, all parents are made aware of our emergency procedures. Emergency information is posted in each classroom.

  1. Emergencies within the daycare facility, such as water flooding or lack of, loss of heat, electricity problems etc. Parents will be notified immediately for pick up.
  2. Dangerous weather conditions/Intruders such as storms and wind endangerment, our shelter in place will be the basement of the Berwyn Methodist Church.
  3. Evacuate the building: If we need to evacuate the building we will relocate to the Easttown Library at 720 First Ave Berwyn PA.

Fire Drills

All schools must have a plan for evacuating the facility in case of fire which meets state codes, safety rules, etc. BELA will have monthly fire drills, to prepare staff and children in case a fire emergency occurs at the center.

Alternate Safe Location

In the event we have to evacuate our center we have designated Easttown Library at 720 First Ave Berwyn PA.

Such scenarios include but are not limited to: fire, flood, toxic spill, and/or fumes. Staff will walk the children to this location on a designated safe path and parents will be contacted via phone/Class Dojo immediately upon our arriving at the shelter.

Lock Down Procedure

If there is a dangerous person inside or immediately outside of our campus, staff/ classrooms will lock all interior doors to protect themselves and children in their rooms. We will notify parents of the lockdown when it begins and when it has ended. No one will be allowed to enter or leave our building during this time. Children will NOT be released during a lock down event. While we understand how scary these situations may be, the center doors will remain locked until we have been notified by emergency personnel the event is over and everyone is safe.

Snow Days and Emergency Closing

Class Dojo is our 1st way of communicating with families. As a general rule we will follow the decisionmade by the Tredyffrin/Easttown School District. We will report closings no later than 6:00 am to the Class Dojo app. Tuition/ copays will not be reimbursed for snow or emergency closings.

Family and Community Engagement

Research shows that children have better educational outcomes when families are involved. Throughout the year you have many opportunities to engage with teachers and work together to help build a foundation for future learning, including parent teacher conferences in October and May. We will also hold family events designed to build our community and foster a deep sense of belonging in the BELA family. We will be partnering with the Berwyn United Methodist Church to bring families additional support and to bridge the organizations. Our hope is that you join us and help us create a campus filled with laughter, learning, and love.
